To give time for your seeds to grow without being overtaken by the growth of weeds in the soil : Prepare the ground, place pieces of cardboard (no ink or adhesive) flat, covered with soil and compost, plant your seeds, water well. Cardboard cover light, weeds in the ground can not grow before cardboard breaks down, your seeds will have time to take place. Cardboard decomposed feed your plants.
